Latest CLPA white paper explores how TSN can level up manufacturing
The CC-Link Partner Association (CLPA) has published a new white paper that examines the real-world benefits that Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) can deliver to businesses in the manufacturing and processing sectors. Available for free on eu.cc-link.org, “Delivering TSN’s benefits to manufacturing” details effective data-driven solutions that the technology can enable in order to help realise the Connected Industries of the future.
As smart manufacturing principles and applications are increasingly becoming a must in order to gain a competitive edge in a fierce and fast-paced global market, companies need access to the latest enabling technologies to support their digital journeys. The newly released white paper from the CLPA clearly showcases how TSN is perfectly suited to address digital transformation strategies, presenting the key role of this technology in driving convergence and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
As discussed in the white paper, TSN increases process transparency by providing a way to merge all types of process data traffic into a single, cohesive stream. This can be more easily analysed to derive actionable insights to further optimise key operations. The result is increased uptime, productivity and product quality. Additionally, the use of a single network to transfer information can reduce both capital and operational expenses while simplifying maintenance. Finally, TSN aids the implementation of gigabit bandwidth, an element that is key to address the “explosion” of data that Industry 4.0 is bringing.
These advantages are available to companies in a variety of industries now and can be realised by adopting CC-Link IE TSN, the first open industrial Ethernet that combines gigabit bandwidth and TSN functions. To illustrate the specific benefits that CC-Link IE TSN can deliver to different companies, “Delivering TSN’s benefits to manufacturing” explores what the technology can do across a number of sectors. In particular, the document covers automotive, food & beverage, lithium-ion battery manufacturing as well as the process and water treatment industries.
John Browett, General Manager at CLPA Europe, says: “The future of the manufacturing and processing sectors is data-driven. This requires highly convergent infrastructures underpinned by TSN to advance operations and enterprises as a whole. This white paper explores the role of TSN as an enabling technology for smart manufacturing, presenting the main benefits that businesses can expect when adopting it. Companies are already adopting CC-Link IE TSN and compatible automation products. The number of successful applications delivering considerable improvements is rapidly growing.”
