CC-Link IE wins IEC61158/IEC61784 certification

The CC-Link Partner Association (CLPA) announced this development on its stand at the SPS/IPC/Drives fair in Nuremberg, Germany in November 2014. Together, IEC61158 and IEC61784 define the standards relating to fieldbus and industrial Ethernet networks. They provide definitions and specifications for the all aspects of the open automation networks for the industrial environment.

CC-Link IE is a global leader in being the only open industrial Ethernet technology that offers gigabit performance. As such, it offers unrivalled productivity benefits. It has two main forms – CC-Link IE Control, intended as a high speed backbone between high level devices such as controllers, and CC-Link IE Field, which links controllers to field devices such as I/O, drives and other actuators. Because of their performance, both technologies are well placed to act as a foundation for the coming applications based on Industry 4.0. They also offer a comprehensive industrial Ethernet solution by including support for motion control, safety and energy management as well as standard control capabilities.

CC-Link IE is promoted and developed by the CC-Link Partner Association (CLPA). The CLPA is composed of over 2,200 partner companies, which include 290 device manufacturers offering products for the network. It is a global organization with 10 locations worldwide, including conformance test centres.

This latest set of certifications firmly places CC-Link IE in the global club of open network technologies recognized by the IEC. They also join the list of other certifications that CC-Link network technologies in general have received from national governments such as China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan. These previous certifications are concrete evidence of the market leading position the CLPA enjoys in the Asian market and the addition of the IEC standards extends this position globally.

John Browett, General Manager of CLPA-Europe, commented, "One of the critical acceptance points for any open network technology is knowing that it is a well proven and well supported choice for applications. CC-Link IE has been recognized as the fastest growing industrial Ethernet technology available, indicating that it is finding widespread acceptance across a range of industries. This IEC certification will strengthen this position further and lead to even greater growth in the future. We encourage all device makers to take a look how CC-Link IE can help expand their business and work with the CLPA to incorporate this world leading technology into their products and systems."
